The mountain range Karakoram is situated high up in the Himalayas, where a highway from Islamabad to China runs through this rough mountain scenery. Due to the many ethnic groups and the desert mountain regions, it also seems like travelling back in time, or to another world. On the curved, desert roads in the Himalayas you'll pass through villages, where people will welcome you to their simple homes, and the 16 million different tribes, with each their own language and culture, make up a fascinating collage. The winters can be very cold with a lot of snow, but if you're really hardcore, then this is the time to go, as there are no other tourists and the inhabitants are most "local". Remember to bring very warm clothes.Time zoneWhen it is 12.00 in England, it is 16.00 in Karakoram.You'll pass several villages on your way, where you can find a place to sleep, but the larger cities have a broader and better selection of accommodation. Then you take the bus to the sleepy town of Golmud, from where the bus goes to Lhasa in Tibet. You follow the route through Tibet and end up in Katmandu, where you'll eat well and gorge yourself in cold chocolate, before going back to your everyday life to take in all the experiences. Everybody should experience this adventure at least once, and it can be done in one and a half month, minimum.
